An Open Letter to Bill White

Bill White is running for Governor because of David Ortez!

Dear Bill White,

You have asked me to answer the question, “How can I best serve you?” in 250 words or less.

Without going into a tangent and exhausting my already valuable word count … shoot only 213 words left … I will lay my case why you should run for Governor of Texas.

But, first … let me reprimand you for last week’s actions. After Tom decided to step down and you called up an impromptu press conference only to state you would entertain the idea of changing races … you gave me the equivalent of political blue balls.

Like a hott girl that knows she is hott … you want to be asked out on a date … well damn you I would oblige.  Read More »

An Open Letter to my U.S. Senators regarding Health Care

Senators Kay Bailey Hutchinson and John CornynDear Senator John Cornyn and Kay Bailey Hutchinson:

Allow me to introduce myself. I am David Ortez, a twenty-four year old recent college graduate from the University of Texas at Austin that is transitioning to pursue a career in the legal sector by attending law school in 2010. I am a native Houstonian that is proud to be a Texan.

I share the same alma mater with Senator Hutchinson and the same hometown as Senator Cornyn. So far, we have something in common and that is a good thing.  Read More »

Explaining the GOP Stimulus Plan Hack Attack

So, you want to know why the heck Republicans took a backseat and then complained about the structure of the Economic Stimulus Plan even after Democrats compromised on infrastructure to include tax cuts?

It is elementary my dear ... Republicans wanted to humilate President Barack Obama on his first major piece of legislation. Their strategy meant that a sound defeat of anything touted by the Democrats would remind Americans that they still had some clout even after suffering losses in the last two election years.

The other objective makes sense once you entertain why we have to be passing an Economic Stimulus Plan in the first place. How else do you fix the last 8 years? You make the next 4 even worse!  Read More »

A Good Day for Women

lilly_ledbetter_bill.jpg

The United States was founded in 1776 and at that time only white, male, property owners had the right to exercise their political influence via voting in an election. Women would not be granted that right until 1920. President Obama signed into law an equal-pay for equal work bill into law. This would end years of mostly gender discrimination in the labor industry that saw females underpaid compared to their male counterparts.

Phillip Elliott of the Associated Press reports that, “Obama, choosing the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act as the first bill to sign as president, called it a "wonderful day" and declared that ending pay disparities between men and woman an issue not just for women, but for all workers.”  Read More »

Republicans Block Auto Industry Bailout

Even thought the Auto Industry Bailout passed in the House, it was nothing but a circus where the big boys hang out. Republican Senators displayed a dog and pony show to front their opposition to the bill.

They employed this tactic for the mere purpose so they could claim that they were against the bill. They will pass a revised version of this bill because if all hell breaks loose they do not want to be on the short end of the stick.

The Associated Press claims, “Republicans left a closed-door meeting where they balked at giving the automakers federal aid unless their powerful union agreed to slash wages next year to bring them into line with those of Japanese carmakers.”  Read More »

On the Joe Lieberman Acquittal

If I were not rational, pragmatic or relied on emotions … I would probably call for Joe Lieberman’s blood. “Feed him to the wolves,” I would proclaim but at the end of the day that is not how it occurred or did it?

Senate Democrats secretly voted to decide the fate of Lieberman and nothing happened. Surprising? Not really and here is why.

First, we need to know what got Lieberman into this mess. Well that is quite elementary you see; Lieberman’s role in the John McCain camp was disrespectful, dishonorable and cutthroat.

Not only did he campaign for John McCain, he spoke at the Republican Convention where he served as a surrogate for the McCain camp. He danced to the tune of the GOP and helped spread a message of hate and lies abut the Barack Obama campaign.  Read More »

Rick Noriega on the Defense

Rick1.jpg

The Presidential election is not the only big race going on in the states this year. Let's not forget that throughout the nation there are members of Congress, Govenors, State Representatives and Mayors are up for reelection etc. One in particular here in Texas is who I am going to focus on today.

Rick Noriega is a Houston Democrat vying for the Democrat spot this March Primary to face off against incumbent U.S. Senator John Cornyn from Dallas in November. What attracts me to this candidate versus the other one is that he has community support and in particular military experience in Afghanistan. I agree with his positions and in my opinion seems like the best candidate to out manuver Cornyn.

Noriega is also savy and understands that even though he has served his country in the military it does not mean that he is immune from the GOP smear machine. One only needs to think back to 04 when former Senator Max Cleland of Georgia was linked to Osama bin Laden. This patriot was an amputee due to the Vietnam was but was unable to survive the smear campaign.

Thus, Noriega has elected not to release his military record to the Texas Republican Party who asked for his permission to have access to the records. Some conservatives out in the blogoshphere claim that Noriega has something to hide. I would argue that's not the case, it is quite obvious that his best trait is the one that the GOP must tarnish if they were to have a chance this November.
