This is a personal reflection of what happened last Saturday as I helped my parents attempt to take advantage of the Cash for Clunkers program.

Before I share my story though … I would like to clarify that I believe the Cash for Clunkers was a great program initiated by the Federal Government at the appropriate time. This is by no means a critique of the program.

On Saturday, I joined my parents as they scoured the Houston area for a new car since my youngest sister was heading to college and our old 1988 Jeep Cherokee may not survive the journey. I love that Jeep … it was my first car and I even took it with me to college. Armando Walle may be serving his first term in the Texas House of Representatives but that does not mean that he is sitting on the sidelines. Honored with the distinction of “Freshman of the Year” by the Women’s Health Caucus, Walle was able to sneak two bills by the veto-happy Republican Governor Rick Perry.

It seems that Annise Parker’s people were scanning my blog because no less than a day later Parker released a press release, Engineering a Stronger Houston and a Healthier Economy, detailing her Infrastructure initiative.

Parker claims, “When our infrastructure is safe, maintained and unobstructed, Houston moves. When it’s dangerous, broken or blocked, Houston grinds to a halt —and that’s not acceptable.”  Read More »
