Locke and the Dynamo sitting in a Tree …

Gene Locke and the Houston Dynamo Soccer Stadium AdvertThis weekend I enjoyed watching the Houston Dynamo defeat the Seattle Sounders 1-0 as they advanced to the MLS Western Conference finals. The game was great and all 120 minutes of it were exciting to say the least.

As I was walking around Robertson Stadium to enter in a gate that was not packed with people I noticed a Gene Locke staff member. Although she blended in real well with the crowd (she was wearing an orange Gene Locke shirt) I was able to spot her and say hi. I inquired why she was at the stadium and she quickly replied that she was spreading the word that Gene Locke supports the Soccer stadium. Cool … I said and I moved along because by this time I had already missed like 10 minutes of the game.

Upon entering the stadium … grabbing a beer and sitting down in my designated area … I informed the other members of the party that I spotted Gene Locke folks working hard just outside the stadium. Jeff chuckled and said … “Yeah, … look at what they are passing out.”

Apparently, they were passing out a bright orange letter size paper claiming that “Gene Locke says that the soccer stadium is a good deal for Houston.”

I even took a picture of the piece of paper while at the game via Twitpic so that anyone doubting it could see that it was true.

The document states on the left side in English (the right side is in Spanish):

Annise Parker says she won’t “fund more museums and stadiums …*”

Gene Locke sats the soccer stadium is a good deal for Houston:
“No ad valorem taxes are used, no money from city budget is being used, construction is covered completely by the team, and we get a facility for university and high school use that helps improve Houston’s economy.”

Other than donations from the team owners … the Dynamo are sure pushing Gene Locke as their candidate … just last Friday at the “Latinos for Locke” function … they noted on their Twitter account that they were at “at El Jardin waiting the arrival of @genelocke!”

What’s your take on this flyer? I am impressed that Gene Locke is pushing this stadium issue this hard. It isn’t like Annise Parker is against the Houston Dynamo soccer stadium since it is a done deal … right?
