Peter Brown Delivers the First TV Ad Blow

We knew it was coming … we just were not sure when and by who. Well, after all the speculation … it was Peter Brown that struck first.

Brown released a dynamic, informative 30-second advert that will appear on broadcast and cable television. The commercial is titled “Next Step” and touts Peter Brown’s achievements in City Council and plans for a better Houston.

The ad is polished and well thought out. There are only a few quirks that I have with it.

First … where is the Peter Brown logo? A candidate and its campaign need to brand themselves through their logo. Remember the Obama “O” logo. If you saw it … you knew it was Obama. The Peter Brown logo should have been watermarked into the video much like what you would find on CNN or MSNBC.

Other than introducing potential voters to Peter Brown … there has to be additional goals that should be implemented in the ad. You have to setup a “Call to Action” in order to gauge the effectiveness of the ad.

Although Peter Brown displays the URL for the “Blueprint for an Even Better Houston” at the end of the advert … it is for a mere 2 seconds. That is not the most productive way to achieve a call to action.

I would suggest that the website be displayed for all 30 seconds. Imagine if you were in a public space and could not listen to the advertisement … at least you would be exposed to the website URL and could listen to the ad at a later date. Or, the ad could ask potential voters to connect with Peter Brown via Facebook or Twitter. If Peter Brown had a Mobile Campaign … he could have merely stated: Text BROWN to 12345 to Learn More.

Other than those minor issues … I like the ad for being positive. It does not attack any candidate in particular and has established the paradigm of what we shall expect this election … hopefully. Since, Brown was the first to jump into the airwaves … do not be surprised to see another candidate jump into the water shortly.

What do you think? Did you like the ad? Why or Why not?
