A Brief Note on the TEA Parties
I enjoy civilized protest … even when I may disagree with those that are dissenting. The last 8 years I was part of that minority and it seems that conservatives but more importantly Republicans have joined the ranks.
Now, don’t get me wrong … a protesting is healthy for a democracy. It is like this check and balance that reminds us what is important to us. It also adds much needed dialogue in political discourse on important political or social issues that may be causing a national dilemma.
It is when protesting about a “stupid” concept or idea that I believe it is harmful to a country. You may think … but isn’t “stupid” like subjective? Well, no … not really. Take for example the TEA Parties that took place last week. On paper the idea of protesting on the last day to file your taxes about taxes seems logical. It is when your party becomes hi-jacked by minority groups that have a different agenda.
One only needs to view footage or photos of signs to truly comprehend how disorganized and off message the whole event was. Thus, its goal was never achievable and the day was a waste for most.
What really ticks me off most though … are the conservative hypocrites who for the last eight years called me and other protestors “un-American” just because we organized to object to the war. Now, they want to exercise that right (which they should) and do not see the shortcomings of their flawed thinking.
The events were chaotic with no coherent message or objective. Some were protesting the bailouts (must I remind you that your former President started this mess) while others were on an anti-Obama campaign, which I have no clue how that fit into taxes.
What I still cannot wrap my mind around is the “Taxed Enough Already” idea. Where the hell any of these people get their information is beyond my mind but they have been misinformed. Most of these middle class Americans are running around protesting about something that has not occurred.
As some fear that America is headed into a Socialist state and others feel that they are being taxed to death, I can only fear that I know now … that I am surrounded my crazy, irrational thinking individuals that love their guns too much!
