Administering the Presidential Oath- Take 2
For a brief moment, some on the right were ecstatic … leaping with joy that Obama had taken the Presidential Oath of Office … administered incorrectly by Chief Justice John Roberts.
They contended that Obama was officially not the President and lord knows what they expected to happen after that? Did they wish that Bush would pop out of nowhere and say, “I’m back” or that this mean that John McCain was the President?
Who knows? One thing is for sure … that meme did not last long. Even after Chief Justice Robert apologized about the flub, he committed to administering it a second time. The Associated Press adds, "just to be on the safe side" as the justification for the do-over.
This is not the first time that a President has retaken the oath. Presidents Calvin Coolidge and Chester A. Arthur have that unique honor as well.
Keith Olbermann of Countdown points out that the Constitution does not require the President to swear in as a means for becoming the Head of State.
In fact, regardless of what time he took the oath he was considered the President at 12:01 pm of January 20, 2009 according to the wording of the Constitution.
That did not stop one FOX News reporter, Chris Wallace, from questioning Obama’s presidency legitimacy.
So much for their concern since most Constitutional experts do not consider this a major issue but in order to rest assure that the next four years we technically do have a President recognized by all; including conservatives … President Obama has retaken the oath!
Don't be alarmed if tomorrow's memo from the Right claims that "X number of people are required" to know about the redo or that Obama's hand had to be over the Bible ... you get the picture.
