Rick the Idiot

When I heard that Barack Obama was meeting with the Governors of the United States, I was ecstatic. Finally, we were getting the ball rolling about stimulating the economy. Obama was meeting with the Governors to discuss about federal aid aimed at the state level.

My only problem was that two Governors did not participate in the meeting. And no, it was not Sarah Palin … she actually showed up. To my disgrace, one of the Governors that did not show up was no other then Rick Perry of my home state of Texas. Editor's Note: It cannot be confirmed that Rick Perry did or did not attend the event thus we shall assume that he did attend.

Rick “the Idiot” Perry is threading on thin water within his party and this surely did not help his cause. No wonder Kay Bailey Hutchinson is entertaining the idea about challenging him in 2010. Perry does not believe that Federal government should be “bailing out” the State government.

In a time where Texas but the United States as a whole can use this economic downtime to stimulate their local economies by investing in infrastructure, I find Perry’s actions peculiar.

Why is it that he does not want to accept Federal funds to bankroll much needed State projects?

Could it be the Trans-Texas Corridor project that is concerning him?

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, the Trans-Texas Corridor is “a proposed multi-use, statewide network of transportation routes in Texas that will incorporate existing and new highways, railways and utility rights-of-way.”

Cynics believe that the TTC would lead towards a North American Union but their concerns about financing are what caught my attention. Apparently the State of Texas cannot afford to build this system so they have turned to the private sector.

Corporations some from foreign governments will partially finance the highway and in turn they will recoup their investment by operating the highways as toll roads. It cannot be that bad, could it?

After reading that Perry is declining support from the Federal government, I am perplexed. If, the State of Texas has to seek private investment because it cannot afford the project … why does Rick Perry not just accept the Federal funds to relinquish any public debt to a private (foreign) entity?

Perhaps, it is because he will not get his fair share of the cut. As a friend noted, once Perry accepts Federal funds to pay for a highway, it cannot be leased to a corporation let alone a foreign one. Could this be why Rick the Idiot did not seek aid from President-Elect Obama?
