Hispanic Population is 50% of U.S. since 2000
According to a Pew Hispanic Center report, the Hispanic population account for more than half the U.S. population growth since 2000.
Contrary to popular belief though, illegal immigration nor legal migration, were not the reason why the Hispanic population grew so much.
Stephen Klineberg, Rice University sociologist, adds, “What’s fueling the growth is the natural increase, the U.S.-born babies, of the previous immigrants who came here five or 10 years ago.”
“The reason for that natural increase is not because Latinos are having so many babies, it’s because so many of the Latinos in Houston are of child-bearing age,” he said.
As a Hispanic I was interested with this reports conclusion but I have concerns of the implications this may have.
How many of these individuals will pursue higher education? Who cares if my ethnic group is the majority when they are the largest group to be represented with the fewest candidates with a degree?
I do not care that much, that Hispanics represent more of the U.S. population as much as I care that they keep up to pace with degrees obtained. I wonder if there is a study that reflects higher education trends among Hispanics.
On a similar note, I found the comments about the story by some on the Houston Chronicle appalling:

The children of illegal immigrants are a part of the total reported number – as long as they are US-born. We need to change the law that gives citizenship to the babies of illegals born in the US.

TrueBeliever wrote: They can have as many babies as they want, but I’m waiting for at least a FEW Mexicans to be able to pay for those children themselves! If they want to breed like rabbits, it’s not my fault and I don’t see why I should have to pay for a generation of kids who can’t even speak English when they start school and whose parents sit around taking handouts. The whole situation stinks and no politician wants to tough it with a 10-foot pole. They shouldnt’ worry about the Mexican vote though, since traditionally they are afraid to vote. So many can’t read or write English and just don’t vote, thank goodness. I think you should have to pass a competency test in English in order to vote. And don’t tell me that the citizenship test requires that because it’s a joke, and most of them aren’t citizens anyway!

The 14th Amendment needs to be revised. Demand that your ALL of your reps support H.R.1940 Birthright Citizenship Act and stop the anchor baby ploy dead in its tracks! No more Free Stuff for illegals! This is the Big Magnet People! Not the money. The 14th Amendment unless it is revised will drag us all down the toilet.
