Palin the Hypocrite

It takes two to tango and when it comes to John McCain’s poor choice in selecting Sarah Palin, he is only 50% guilty of committing the offense. Palin deserves equal scrutinizing and is at fault just as McCain should be.

You see . . . when McCain asked her to be the Vice President, Palin had the opportunity to use good judgment and ignore her ego and decline because she was not prepared for the position, just like the Governor from Louisiana that McCain was courting until he declined the offer publicly. Palin should have declined the offer because she was not prepared but more importantly just a month ago she admitted that she did not even know what the VP did.

Then there was the statement that most of the media ignored to hold Palin accountable for asserting. She deceived Americans when she claimed that she never supported “the bridge to nowhere” when in fact she did. Then of course it does not seem to matter that this candidate is involved in a scandal back home. Her role although dubious should have signaled to her to decline any offers due to the peculiar circumstances.

Then news broke out that Palin’s 17-year-old unmarried daughter had premarital sex and was pregnant out of wedlock. Teenagers that become pregnant at a young age are ostracized and humiliated by their community. They are neglected by the social services that are to aid them because a teen pregnancy is a taboo in this country. I do not care what activities Palin’s daughter engaged in . . . in fact she is neither the first nor the last teenager that will become pregnant at a young age. It is the conscious decision by Palin . . . the mom and adult to air the laundry that bothers me. Danielle adds, “Premarital sex is OK, as long as you marry the person you're doing it with ... eventually. Glad to know the goal posts got moved back a bit more.”

What bothers me about the situation is that Palin, knowing that her daughter was 5 months pregnant, decided to expose this private matter and sacrifice her daughter for her personal ambitions. Is that the mother that they tout and are proud of? Any parent with values and their family’s interest in mind would have declined the scrutiny solely based on this circumstance.

Instead, we have right wing pundits spinning this issue and making it seem like it is all right. No, it is not! Why are we not talking about the flaws of “abstinence-only” education? Why is Palin not taking the steps to fight for other forms of sexual education. This is an obvious shortcoming that some in the GOP wish to ignore.

What bothers me most though is that the right wing pundits attacked Obama’s 10 year old daughter. They were critical of the Obamas as parents for letting the young girl wear such a revealing dress during Michelle Obama’s speech.

How come the media is not more critical of Palin who is less than 3 months away from becoming the second most powerful person in the free world? She has links to a groups that wishes Alaska secede from the United States. She is not the maverick she claims . . in fact she engaged in the old politics of porking- the very thing she claims to be fighting to change in D.C. if elected. She was also a member of a controversial church- anyone else thinking about Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Justin Gardener notes, "McCain picks a little unknown Governor from Alaska who seems like she’s ill prepared for the international spotlight given all of these stories that have started to pop up about her, not the least of which is this latest news that she wasn’t just cozy with a secessionist group…she was a member. I mean, how could McCain not have known about that?"

At the end of the day the hypocrisy from the McCain-Palin camp will be revealed. Her first mistake was accepting a position she was not prepared for. Palin is too proud and her personal ambitions have blinded her from making the correct choice for this country. She fed her child to the wolves in order to become a VP. She damaged her party’s credibility by accepting the VP spot knowing well that her scandal would hurt McCain’s chances.

Instead of rallying behind this terrible choice, Republicans need to grow a backbone and say NO! They should demand a better more qualified candidate that does not bring this baggage to the campaign. I can only entertain and grin at how the media and Republicans would have a field day if this were a Democrat. She is a bad choice for the GOP but more importantly she is a bad choice for America!
