Hillary the Great!

Hillary Clinton did what she had to do. I can’t imagine how hard it must have been to be on that stage but under different circumstances. She united a party that media tried to imply was divided. There were some that speculated that the party would split and there would be a Democratic Party with Barack Obama as their nominee and a Third Party with Clinton as their nominee.

That of course did not happen. Clinton’s message was clear. As Ezra Kelin notes, “Her candidacy was about something, not someone. She is a Democrat, not a Hillaryite.” Those that supported Clinton believed in an effort to expand health care, shift our economic policy so it benefits the middle class and rectify the damage that Bush has done to our foreign image and policy.

There have been some Clinton supporters that have struggled with the outcome and decided to vote for McCain. They are a small minority that never really supported Clinton for her policies but did it for her candidacy as a woman, or on the false understanding of "experience."

Clinton did not forget about McCain. Her joke about the GOP convention being held in the Twin Cities which is appropriate for a candidate that is no different from President Bush, will, I imagine, be used throughout the next weeks,

Unity is necessary for victory. During the roll call today, it was Clinton from New York that gave the deciding and unanimous vote to Obama. How fitting that she made history with the vote from New York . . . for the first time in American History; a political party has nominated an African-American as their Presidential candidate. Steve Benen adds that, “she effectively explained that an Obama victory is an absolute necessity.” I concur . . . America has suffered enough these last 8 years and we can not entertain four more years from McCain’s poor judgment. Clinton said it best last night, “You haven't worked so hard over the last 18 months, or endured the last eight years, to suffer through more failed leadership. No way. No how. No McCain."
