Obama Ad in 30 Seconds
MoveOn.org have just announced an ObamaIn30Seconds Contest open to the public for the best 30 second spot promoting Democratic Candidate Barack Obama. The winner will get a take home price of $20k in video equipment and boasting rights to nationally aired political ad.
You may remember MoveOn from 2004 when they released the famous 30 second spot "Child's Pay" that explained who would end up paying the cost of our deficit. This recent contest is a prime example of what I have been touting about the internet's role in politics here and here. Politicians and candidates are now accountable to the people via these ads produced by civilians with no ties to candidates. It will be interesting how many ads are created but more importantly what that influx of ads will have on the voting population.
On another note, the video that I have posted with this post is not 30 seconds but it is another example of how ordinary Americans can make a difference in the political spectrum. This cleverly written and executed advert is one my favorite so far. It is not as polished with post production as other ads but the message it conveys is nonetheless priceless.
